Charles works with a number of Local Authorities as Consultant Landscape Architect to prepare consultation responses on their behalf. His experience in the design and implementation of a wide range of schemes, coupled with a knowledge of the planning system, enables him to help both the applicant and the Case Officer to focus quickly on the key issues. This work can be done on a case by case basis or on a longer term (i.e. 1 day per week / per month) basis. This service regularly leads through to hearings or appeals where Charles acts as Expert Witness.
High quality detailed design of all hard and soft elements including construction details, levels, materials, earthworks, drainage, planting plans, maintenance schedules and management documentation for all forms of development including external, internal, courtyard and roof gardens.
We also regularly undertake the role of Planning Supervisor under the current HSE and CDM Regulations.
We produce detailed master-plans for the overall development and subsequently produce high quality detailed design of all hard and soft elements including construction details, levels, materials, earthworks, drainage, planting plans, maintenance schedules and management documentation. The style and complexity of these plans varies depending on the project, but all are produced to a high quality and are frequently used for presentation purposes.
We also offer advice and detailed design for reclamation and restoration of derelict land to agricultural or recreational use including major sporting facilities and environmental improvement schemes in housing and industrial areas.
We have produced a full range of Environmental Assessments working through the procedure from Scoping, Strategic Assessment, Landscape and Visual Impact studies to Environmental Statements.
Experience includes new road and motorway widening, river courses, airports, leisure, housing and business park developments.
We also regularly give evidence as expert witness at Public Inquiries.
On larger schemes it is critical to look at the ‘bigger picture’ before focusing on the smaller scale elements. This is as important and relevant on large business park developments as it is for sports facilities or large-scale garden design.
Before we embark on the production of a masterplan, we regularly prepare a feasibility study, which usually includes an analysis of the existing use and management, external influences, existing vegetation (condition and potential). This will highlight potential for development and will inform the preparation of possible masterplan options.
As Landscape Architects we are involved in the planning, design and creation of a vast range of outdoor spaces.
‘Play areas’ are not just restricted to small rectangular areas with fixed pieces of equipment, they include a wide variety of larger recreational spaces where children and adults alike can relax and enjoy themselves. We specialise in providing stimulating solutions where kids can use their imagination and have fun.
On occasion when Charles has some spare time, he combines a love of old maps with a very sharp knife and creates wonderful pieces of artwork. Each piece is unique and hand cut and no two pieces are ever the same. Charles is happy to undertake commissions – these make a wonderful gift where you can choose your favourite pet or animal and combine it with a place of interest or birthplace. Here are some examples…
